But they have struggled this season and lie 18th out of 20 teams. Still they produced a decent performance to win 3 – 0 at the Antonio Dominguez Alfonso Stadium in Los Christianos.
The stadium itself is a pretty massive athletics track cum football stadium – it is not fully covered or goes all the way round but it has plenty of concrete steps and there is a bar – 0.5L of the local brew retails at €2.20.
€9.00 to get in plus another €1 which I’m not sure what is was for at first then I realised later it was for the completely compulsory half time draw which was drawn but helpful as ever the numbers were called in Spanish!
No programme produced but there was some memorabilia on sale – a badge and baseball cap cost me €5
The set up saw Marino have squad numbered jerseys and perhaps the most surprising thing for me was the presence of 4 TV cameras at the game – probably for the local Canary Islands TV.
As for the game, well after 5 minutes the big centre half Borja got in a header following a cross from the right. Tijarafe number 10 had a decent effort on 13 minutes deflected for a corner. Airam Garcia had a good chance on 16 minutes when he got on the end of a knock down on the edge of the box, beat a man but proved he had no left foot as he then tried to flick the ball past the keeper using the outside of his right foot. Marino’s #12 hit a good shot that forced a save low to his right. Tijarafe’s number 10 was dangerous down the inside left channel and got a good shot in that the number 9 almost flicked past the Marino keeper. Barjos got a header in on goal in 20 minutes. Tijarafe should have gone ahead on 28 minutes when the number 9 was denied by the legs of the Marino keeper. Tijarafe on 54 minutes passed up the chance of the game when the number 11 on the left put a ball into the number 9 who with the goal glaring side footed the ball past the far post when it looked easier to score. A swap of keeper for Marino saw the number 13 replaced by the number 1 who came off with a back injury. Marino’s opening goal came in 59 minutes when an own goal from Tijarafe’s number 8 tried to clear a cross from Marino’s number 3 deep into the back post where Giovanni knocked the ball back the hapless Tijarafe tried to back flick the ball away but only succeeded in putting the ball into his own net. In typical European style, Marino went into their shell and started to play with one up front and trying to protect their lead. On 80 minutes the home side went 2- 0 cheered the crowd of around 200 when a good cross saw Riccardo head home. Riccardo got on the end of a side footed effort from the left from Noah with 4 minutes to make it 3 - 0
