This was another impressive win for the Ardrossan side as they come to the end of the league season playing some magnificent football. Winton did the early pressing in this game which was an perfect advertisement for summer football and John Gallagher saw a shot fly wide of the target following a knock down in the box after 5 minutes. Yet it was the home side who went ahead on 15 minutes when a cross on the left from Gareth Timoney was knocked down by White to the unmarked Gary McGrath and he fired home from 12 yards. Winton fought back and on 22 minutes a long ball from defence was flicked into the path of Milliken by Gallagher but he tried the chip and the ball sailed over the bar. Winton did get back on level terms on 29 minutes when Blair Gilmour pulled Scott Adam to the ground. Graeme Patterson stepped up and sent Scott Gilmour the wrong way for the equaliser and it took another 7 minutes for the Rovers to go ahead when a well worked goal saw a ball through the right channel for Gallagher to get to the bye line before crossing for the on rushing Milliken to head home. Winton again looked lively at the start of the second period and a ball in at the back post by Patterson on 51 minutes saw Muir hit an early strike that Gilmour did really well to stop and gather. Vics had a chance on the hour mark when Scott Hayes headed a corner back into the mixer but White scooped the ball over the bar. Colin Frye was orchestrating things in the middle for the Rovers and he went on a good run on 62 minutes but all that was lacking was the finish which was too straight at Gilmour. Winton went further ahead on 67 minutes when Muir picked the ball up on the left and cut in side before measuring a beautiful curling shot from 25 yards past the static Gilmour and into the net. Winton grew in confidence and were passing the ball well and creating chances of which two came in quick succession on 75 minutes with cross balls that couldn’t find any takers. Darryl Boyd got away from the Winton defence on the left a minute after this but as he got slowed down near the box he got a shot away but it was too straight at Robertson in the Winton goal. Gallagher and McAvoy played a nice one two on 80 minutes but McAvoy’s finish saw the ball go off target. Winton rounded off a splendid performance with a goal in the last minute when Gallagher got free on the right and crossed the ball to Adam who had the simplest of chances to tap the ball home.
