Winton finished their league season with another healthy win but a much changed and improved Kello side made the Ardrossan side work for their victory. Winton finish their campaign in 5th place which sees them improve again but their end of league form has seen their supporters treated to 24 goals in the last 5 games.
Kello were up for this one and got a shot in on target within the first 30 seconds as the home side were looking to avenge last week’s drubbing by Winton. Winton retaliated and a good move saw Muir get free but his effort was blocked but Kello again came back and Baird set up Rae on 4 minutes who hit a nice early shot but it was into the arms of O’Neill. The early Kello pressure passed and Winton took a grip on the game. After 12 minutes a knock back from Gallagher allowed McAvoy to get a good shot which took a slight deflection and went over. Scott Adam got through on 16 minutes but the impressive Hyslop eased him out of hit and his effort went wide. Winton were on top with plenty of possession in and around the box but it took 31 minutes for the visitors to go ahead and hit was a product of a good driving run by Wilson from full back and his ball was eventually sent wide left to Patterson and he swept in a terrific curling shot into the postage stamp corner of the net. Winton tried to extend their lead but they were shocked when Kello snatched an equaliser on 42 minutes after Graham Wark knocked a cross ball down to Allan Morris who hit an unstoppable shot past O’Neill into the far corner of the net.
Kello took a great deal of heart from this late first half equaliser and came out more determined but Winton passed up a chance after 49 minutes when a high looping ball saw McAvoy in space and his control was excellent, shot low and hard but Stuart Leavy pulled off a brilliant save. Still Kello had much more possession in the second half but Winton still had the better chances typified when a free kick by Davidson in at the back post on 63 minutes when Milliken ghosted in but saw his downwards header saved and from this Kello’s Baird on the break ran in but saw his shot well saved by O’Neill. Kello then forced three corners in rapid succession with scorer Morris looking for a second but had a deflected shot that went wide.
Kello’s best chance came in 74 minutes when a shot from Milne was flicked on by Wark and the ball came off the far post before O’Neill gathered it. Leavy started to pull off some good saves from the Winton strikers and on 75 minutes McAvoy saw his low drive parried after good work from Milliken and Muir. Davidson got free on the left a couple of minutes after this and this time he tried to curl a shot into the far corner but Leavy again dived low to his left and turn the ball past the post for a corner. Winton’s pressure eventually told on 80 minutes when a throw in on the left was flicked on by Gallagher and the ball was allowed to roll to Adam who scored from 12 yards. With 5 minutes to go Winton sealed their victory when from a throw in on the half way line John Gallagher went on a run from deep and got through the Kello defence before slipping the ball past Leavy. Derek Cook came on for a cameo appearance after an injury to McAvoy but the final move of the game saw Scott Adam get free from the Kello defence and after he shrugged off his man he ran on to score his second of the game and Winton’s fourth.
