Kilbirnie Ladeside 0 - 3 Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Winton won their final Ardagh cup game with a rare and emphatic victory against the Blasties at Valefield. The visitors took an early initiative when a short corner was rolled to Frye whose shot was tipped over the bar by Murdoch after 6 minutes. From this corner, the ball came back out to Scott Houston and he floated in a cross that John Gallagher rose unchallenged to head past Murdoch to give Winton the lead. The Blasties came back and on 11 minutes a good move down the right saw the ball cut back to Barbour who hit a fierce shot low down but O’Neill got two hands on it and Muir completed the clearance. Steven Miller saw O’Neill save a dipping, swerving effort on 25 minutes but the Rovers went further ahead on 28 minutes when a ball down the left was flicked on by Hamilton but with the Ladeside defenders waiting for the linesman to raise his flag, McAvoy picked the ball up and ran in from the left before crashing a low drive in at the near post. Gallagher almost put Winton 3 up on 31 minutes when McAvoy was sent clear on the right by Paton and he put a good ball into the Winton man but he steered the ball wide. Winton got a header on target on 48 minutes and from this Kilbirnie ran up the park and put in a great low cross that only needed a touch but there were no takers. Alain Kinney came closest for the Blasties on 50 minutes when he saw his shot cannon off the post. Winton were put under a bit of pressure with O’Neill saving well from the feet of Kinney but the Rovers played well on the break and Gallagher set McAvoy up but Murdoch saved with his legs after 70 minutes. Patterson almost got a goal for the Rovers but dragged his shot wide as the game was petering out. The Rovers were doing well holding onto the ball and passing it around the park trying to kill the game but Ladeside’s Miller saw a fierce free kick from distance well held and in the last minute Kinney saw an effort clip the bar before Winton killed the game off after McAvoy got on the end of ball over the top that was missed by the Ladeside defence and he chipped Murdoch to seal the game.
