29 Jul 2007 - Preseason win v Neilston
Neilston U21 0 - 1 Winton Rovers
Winton recorded a well earned result against their young opponents although in fairness the Rovers themselves average age is not much higher than their opposition. The game was played on the astrograss at Woodfarm and allowed Winton to develop some sharpness in a fast flowing game.
The first half was pretty tame stuff with no real excitement on offer but just before the interval Stevie O'Neill pulled off 3 magnificent saves in very quick succession as the Neilston youngsters almost took the lead. The only goal of the game came in 55 minutes when Scott Adam got on the end of some good work by Sean Quinn on the left and he hit a low left foot drive past the keeper. This was a good work out for the Rovers and they rang the changes to allow all the players to get a game and try some players out in different positions but with 15 minutes to go O'Neill looked impressive getting down well to a low drive at his
near post. Winton had a couple of chances near the end to extend their lead and Adam had a chance to curl a shot in but it was deflected for a corner and from the corner, Alistair Patrick headed the ball just wide.
Ardrossan Winton Rovers
O'Neill, Wallace, Connelly, Little, Easton, Wilson, Paton, Weaver, Adam, Montgomerie, Muir
Subs Quinn, Milliken, Patrick, Sim
