Largs Thistle 2 - 0 Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Largs win section 1 of the Ardagh Cup and are at home to Hurlford on Thursday night after a hard fought win over a well organised Winton side. Largs were the first to show in 8 minutes when Cannie turned and fed the ball through to McCabe but Wilson got a block in and O'Neill saved comfortably. On the quarter hour mark O'Neill showed his class pulling off a full length diving save from a Cannie shot. Winton got a shot in on Steven Connick on 20 minutes when Paton hit a low drive that the Largs keeper held. Cannie almost got the opener in 24 minutes when he had time at the back post to score but tried an overhead effort that was deflected past. Winton were living dangerously at this stage conceding a few corners which saw Shearer get a shot in that was deflected and eventually McCabe got a shot in but O'Neill gathered. Winton had a good chance on 33 minutes when McAvoy got free on the right and put in a good curling shot that just went over. Graham Muir had a great chance just before half time when a free kick was put into the Largs box and the ball was flicked onto Muir at the back post but Connick pulled off a great stop to keep the home side from conceding. Winton probably opened the second half the brighter of the two sides and a couple of early crosses into the box saw the Largs goal under threat but the finishing touch wasn't there for the Ardrossan side. Despite this good start Largs got the opening goal on 61 minutes when a ball over the top fell to a suspiciously offside looking Cannie but he got one on one with O'Neill and hit his shot off the near post only for the ball to roll across the line hit the other post before eventually trickle over the line. Largs' McCabe had a couple of chances to seal the win but just couldn' get on the end of a couple of dangerous crosses. Largs went 2 - 0 up on 71 minutes when a McIlvogue freekick from deep was met by the head of William McClure who headed the ball down and back across beating the Rovers' keeper. Winton did finish the game strongly when McAvoy drifted past Shearer as if he wasn't there in the last minute but got held up and then sent his shot just past the post. Muir also got in on the act getting in through the left channel but Connick was in unbeatable form and blocked the Rovers midfielder's effort.
