30 Sep 2007 - Defeated at Dalmellington
Stagecoach Ayrshire League Sat 29th September 2007
Craigmark Burntonians 1 - 0 Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Winton lost this game at Craigmark who go top of the table but still managed to dominate but failed to find that killer touch and will rue the missed chances and also the chance to boost confidence going into Saturday's Scottish cup tie versus New Elgin.
Winton did open brightly enough in this game shooting down the slope and a corner from the right from McAvoy was met by Easton but the ball wasn't cleared by the 'Mark defence and Brian Wallace hit his effort over the bar.
The home side took the lead in 12 minutes when a free kick was fired in by Scott Dinwoodie and the ball was deflected towards the back post and full back Steven Kerr nipped in unmarked and scored from 6 yards out. 'Mark took a lot of confidence from this lead and pushed the Rovers back creating a couple of chances after the goal but Winton held out. Both teams had spells in the first half and on 23 minutes McAvoy saw a header at the back post held by Stephen Douglas in the Craigmark goal.
The Ardrossan's side inability to hit the target was typified on 27 minutes when a Jamie Paton cross was headed wide by Alan Shanks. Craigmark had a good chance to extend their lead on 39 minutes when a ball into the box was held up by Swegsda and he cut the ball back to Middleton who shot wide from the edge of the box. Into the second half and Winton were determined to try and get back on level terms and McAvoy and Milliken linked on the left but the latter's cross was just behind Scott Adam.
On 59 minutes Winton's McAvoy hit a dipping shot from the edge of the box following a corner but Douglas was proving hard to beat. 'Mark weren't out of the game and on 62 minutes a Dinwoodie shot from distance went through a ruck of players but O'Neill held the shot. Winton kept up the pressure from a Graham Muir corner Easton had a good chance to equalise but scooped his shot over the bar from 6 yards out.
Winton then found themselves down to 10 men after Jamie Paton was needlessly sent off for two yellow cards on 66 minutes making the Rovers' task all the more difficult. Craigmark may have had the goal and numerical supremacy but their attacks were fleeting but they did pass up a good chance on 69 minutes when Kerr and Lawrie almost forced home a corner.
Winton made a conscious decision to try and win the game going with 3 up front but this led to some spaces at the back and Dinwoodie missed a glaring chance on the break on 76 minutes after being set up by Middleton. McAvoy had a good chance on 82 minutes to equalise and this time his header beat the impervious Douglas but the ball went past the post.
Craigmark were dangerous on the break and Smith and Dinwoodie again combined but O'Neill saved. As the game was being stretched Middleton missed a glaring chance to make the game safe for 'Mark but shot over from close range on the break.
