13 Oct 2007 - Dalry win at Ardrossan
Stagecoach Ayrshire League Sat 13th October 2007
Ardrossan Winton Rovers 2 - 4 Dalry Thistle
Dalry enhanced their promotion hopes with a clinical display against Winton showing their hosts how to take their chances. Dalry's three points were aided by critical mistakes by the Rovers team but at least they showed character to peg Dalry's first half lead back.
Winton had a chance in 3 minutes when Scott Adam and Alistair Patrick combined and the tall striker got a good left foot shot in that Rankin parried and Dalry cleared. The two teams spent most of the early part of the game cancelling each other out with similar formations but on 23 minutes Montgomerie made a good run and fired in a shot that went straight into the arms of Rankin. Winton were more adventurous at this stage shooting down the slope but it was Dalry that took the lead on 26 minutes when Jamie Allison got in on the left and he managed to get one on one with O'Neill and he cut the ball across the goal but Billy Easton slid in and the ball ended up in his own net. Dalry got a huge lift from this and started to play well and Murphy and Allison combined to allow the latter to get a shot in a minute after the goal. Crawford got on the end of an Ottoway cross on 28 minutes but O'Neill smothered the ball. Murphy managed to beat the offside trap in 31 minutes but the usually deadly striker hit the side netting. Winton weathered the storm and on 40 minutes Scott Adam got free on the right but his effort on goal went high and wide. A minute later Derek Frye's team had a mountain to climb when a poor bye kick from O'Neill went straight to the feet of Allison who promptly despatched the ball into the net to make it 2 - 0. The half time team talks saw a revitalised Winton side and Milliken saw a deflected shot go over the bar. Dalry had a gilt edged chance to seal the game when on 55 minutes a shot was saved by O'Neill and the loose ball fell to Rodgers six yards out who managed to balloon the ball over the bar and it actually went out of the park. Three minutes later Winton got a goal back when a corner from the left was spectacularly met by the foot of Davie Wilson who volleyed the ball back into the top left corner of the net. A great cross by Milliken met the head of Patrick but he couldn't get his effort on target. Winton got level on 62 minutes when Keir Milliken got a cracking strike from the left channel 20 yards out that beat Rankin all ends up. Dalry capitalised on another Winton mistake on 67 minutes when a free kick from Anthony McCann on the left allowed Rodgers to get in front of his man and head the ball back across O'Neill and into the goal. The Rovers had a chance to equalise on 70 minutes when a ball in from the right saw Alan Shanks loop a header in but it was cleared of the line. Sean Quinn out another good cross in for Shanks but his header was off target. The game was flowing at this stage and on 76 minutes Murphy got free on the left and drew O'Neill but curled his shot wide of the post. Murphy did get on the score sheet on 81 minutes when from a throw in the ball was cut back to the striker and he curled a shot into the net from 12 yards. Winton continued to try and get back into the game but a good cross by Wilson was headed over by Milliken in at the near post.
