Johnstone Burgh 2 - 0 Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Winton handed Johnstone Burgh their first win of the season by producing probably their worst display of the season. Yet it was the Winton who started well and a cross across the goal line in 4 minutes from Scott Adam saw no takers as the Burgh defence was all at sea.
A minute after this Montgomerie and Paton combined on the right and the former's cross was met by Millken but the ball went high. On 11 minutes Winton got 3 on 2 following a break and Milliken fed Quinn on the left but Fusari saved well to concede a corner. Winton continued to press and Wozencroft was forced to concede a corner when he cut out a cross but the ball only just went over. The Burgh had a great chance to open the scoring on 14 minutes when David Brolly got between the Winton centre backs and with the goal beckoning, he struck his effort past the post.
The Burgh did get a goal a couple of minutes later when former Buffs man James Donnelly got on the end of a cut back from Brolly to side foot the ball high into the net. Derek Frye's men had a chance on 19 minutes but Drew Russell slid in to clear a dangerous ball across his goal. Burgh went further ahead on 39 minutes courtesy of a bizarre own goal when an Adam Niscari cross from the right came in, David Wilson tried to clear but the ball sclaffed off his right boot and the ball nestled in the far corner of the net. Just before half time Winton had a good chance to get a goal back when Quinn set up the on running Milliken but he screwed his shot wide of the post.
Winton should have been dead and buried a minute into the second half when Brolly was clear after a cross from the left but he lofted his effort over the bar with just O'Neill to beat. Winton only sporadically make any impression on the Burgh goal which was typified in 51 minutes when a free kick from McCann saw the ball fall to Montgomerie and Fusari tipped his shot past the post. Winton tried to force the game but to no effect and Johnstone were still dangerous when Niscanci saw his good effort on 80 minutes cannon the near post.
Winton's best chance of the game came in 81 minutes when a corner on the left was met by new signing Paul Brown and his header crashed off the post only for the ball to rebound off Billy Easton's shin and the ball went out for a bye kick.
O'Neill kept the Rovers in the game when he saved well from a good effort from Niscani but the Burgh side, winless so far this season, go into the hat for the second round draw.
