Winton managed to scrape into the 3rd round of the Scottish Junior cup with this nerve jangling display up in Aberdeen. Despite arriving late due to the traffic, the Winton lads started sharply and gained the lead after 4 minutes when Stephen McAvoy was sent clear on the left and then chipped the goalkeeper from 25 yards. However, Winton went down to 10 men as Graham Muir took ill at this stage and as the substitute was being prepared, Lads Club took advantage and equalised when Danny Forde got on the end of a cut back and turned his man to score from 6 yards out. The rip roaring start to the game continued and after 7 minutes Greg Morrison saw his low shot from the left saved by the legs of Stevie O'Neill but this was only a temporary reprieve as Lads Club went ahead in 9 minutes when James Robertson drilled in a low shot that cannoned off the post and rebounded off O'Neill into the net.

The game settled down after this but Winton back on level terms in 20 minutes when following a corner Brown and Easton stayed up the park and when the ball came back in Easton knocked the ball onto Brown who hit a tremendous half volley into the net. McAvoy saw off a couple of hefty challenges on 30 minutes to fire in a good shot that Barney saved well. Sean Quinn got in on the action on 42 minutes when he cut back inside to fire in a low drive that was tipped past the post for a corner.

Seven minutes into the second half Lads Club went ahead again when Winton failed to clear their lines and Andrew Gregory found space to hit a low drive past O'Neill from 15 yards. The Rovers weren't giving up despite this setback and on 63 minutes they were level when Jamie Paton got free on the right and sent in a low dangerous cross that was knocked in by Colin Frye. Winton were pressing again after this but it was a breakaway that led to the North side going ahead again in this amazing game on 75 minutes when Gregory got free down the middle and drew O'Neill before sending a great chip over the keeper to score a spectacular goal. The action continued unabated and almost straight from the kick off Winton got level again when a Shanks knock down fell to Montgomerie who clipped the ball over Barney and into the net from the edge of the box.

The game was anyone's at this stage but Winton took the decisive lead in 82 minutes when a brilliant run in midfield from Colin Frye saw him put an inch perfect ball to Sean Quinn on the burst and he skilfully rolled the ball past Barney and into the corner of the net. The Aberdeen side pushed Winton back as they tried to get an equaliser and despite forcing no less that 6 corners in an amazing 7 minutes of injury time it wasn't to be and the Rovers go into the hat for the 3rd round draw.
