This was a good win for the Winton against the league leaders played in a gale force wind in Ayr.

Winton played with the wind at their backs in the first half and took the game to their hosts and on 2 minutes Graham Muir got free on the right and cut a dangerous looking ball that was cleared for a corner. Garry Smith of Whitletts took the ball wide on the left shortly after this and sent in a low drive that never really troubled O'Neill. Winton had a shout for a penalty 10 minutes when McAvoy beat his man and ran into the box where it looked like he was being held but the ball ran into the arms of the Vics' goalkeeper.

Winton were using the wind to force the game to their hosts and looked dangerous without forcing too many saves from Wilson. Winton did take the lead in 27 minutes when Sean Quinn got free on the left and sent in a tremendous shot that Wilson could only parry and Muir followed up to send in a low shot that went in despite the best efforts of Ryland. Winton almost went further ahead when Scott Adam sent a lovely ball in to Muir who hit a low shot that Wilson saved with McAvoy ready to pounce on any mistake. With the wind seemingly playing a big part in this game Winton tried to get further ahead before the interval and despite a couple of vicious inswinging corners the best chance came when Adam set up McAvoy on 43 minutes with a good ball through but Steven Lynch slid in to make a magnificent tackle to clear the danger.

Winton however, got off to a flyer at the start of the second half when Jamie Paton ran in down the right flank and ran in on goal before slipping the ball past Wilson to extend Winton's lead and chalk up his first competitive goal for the club. Graham Longair sent in a good low curling shot on 50 minutes that O'Neill gathered.

The home side were over hitting passes with the wind at their backs yet it was the Rovers who looked like a threat on the break and on the hour mark McAvoy saw a drive whistle past the post. Gary Taylor did manage to utilise the wind on 69 minutes when a free kick from 35 yards came off the cross bar but Winton cleared. The Vics did get a goal back on 73 minutes when a poor clearance by McCann on the left saw the ball crossed back into the box where Duffy knocked the ball back to Robert Park and he sent a cracking half volley past O'Neill to give the home side some hope of a revival.

Adam and McAvoy were combining well and McAvoy was sent through but Wilson saved his effort and from the loose ball Frye sent in a shot from distance that was cleared off the line. The Rovers went 3 - 1 up on 85 minutes when Frye sent McAvoy clear on the left. The Rovers forward still had some work to do but he ran to the bye line and cut the ball via Scott Adam back to Graham Muir who side footed a great shot into the top corner of the net. Smith tried hard to get a goal back for Whitletts and a free kick from distance was too straight for O'Neill. Just before the final whistle, Milliken got free on the left after a sweeping move but shot straight at Wilson.
